Deionized Water car applications include ‘topping up’ lead acid batteries where the presence of ions found in Tap Water could cause a serious reduction in the lifespan of a car or truck battery.  Deionized Water car applications also include the use of Deionized Water for engine cooling systems, particularly in the automotive industry. Trace elements and minerals commonly found in Tap Water could serious corrode internal engine components and can reduce the effectiveness of anti-corrosion additives in most antifreeze solutions.

Deionized Water car applications and Deionized Water truck applications are used through the world.  Deionized Water is significantly cheaper to produce than Distilled Water.  For this reason, Deionized Water is more widely used in industry than Distilled Water.  Many applications are safe to use either product.

Deionized Water Car ApplicationsDeionized Water is produced by means of deionization equipment whereby water is passed through ion exchange resin beds where the trace metals are removed from the water and the negative and positive ions neutralised.

Distilled Water is produced by means of a distillation process whereby water is heated in a vessel until water vapour appears, the water vapour is collected in another vessel, cooled and condensed, with the resultant liquid being Distilled Water.  The distillation process is more time consuming then that of deionization therefore Distilled Water is more expensive to produce than Deionized Water.

Synonyms for Deionized Water include Demineralized Water, DI Water and DIW.  The word ‘Deionized’ can also be spelt with a ‘s’ as in Deionised or Demineralised, Deionisation or Demineralisation, Deionise or Demineralise.  In effect, all these products are the same material.

Deionized Water and Distilled Water are just two types of purified water with a wide range of uses.  Other types of pure water include water produced by reverse osmosis, water produced by carbon filtration and water produced by ultraviolet oxidation.  Technology is improving all the time and it is now possible to produce pure water where contaminants can be measured in ppb (parts per billion) and ppt (parts per trillion).

A reputable specialist water company should be sought for a reliable supply of Deionized Water as this will ensure that the product is of a consistently high quality.    Reputable companies often work in accordance with quality and environmental criteria such as that laid down by ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System and ISO 14000 Environmental Standard.  A quality supplier will be pleased to discuss its accreditations to any recognisable Standards and will be proud to be working to the stringent requirements of the Standards.

In addition to Deionized Water car applications, further information on other aspects of Deionized Water can be found on the relevant pages of this website.  These include the differences between Deionized Water and Distilled Water, how to buy Deionized Water in bulk, what to look out for when you wish to buy Deionized Water in the UK and how to make Deionized Water.
